Since January 2019, we were able to arrange for talks on palliative care to the students and lecturers of various private colleges in Penang.

We are truly grateful for this opportunity to be able to bring such awareness to the students as it is never too early for them to know about it and to share it with their family & friends. We also informed them of the free palliative home care service provided by Charis Hospice to those who are having cancer and advanced terminal illnesses within Penang island.

Charis Hospice together with Friends of Seniors (FOS) kicked off with our Basic Caregiver’s Training Module 1 on the 9th March, 2019 at our premise in Farlim. Attendance was good and we had 27 participants. We want to thank the team, which consist of the staff from Charis Hospice and Friends of Seniors together with our volunteer trainers for a successful event!

All participants had a wonderful time learning and putting into practice the basic skills of taking care of the elderly!

Our Basic Caregiver’s Training for Modules 1, 2 & 3 for 2019. Training is conducted by professionally trained nurses, physiotherapist & speech therapist.The training teaches basic and practical ways on how to take care of the elderly folks who are staying at home and need care or special attention.Suitable for domestic helpers and volunteers as well.

Calling all students & those interested in writing!!

Charis Hospice together with KDU Penang University College are organizing this essay in lieu of Charis Hospice 15th Anniversary Celebration this year. The essay writing competition is open to Juniors (15-20 years old) and Seniors (21 and above). Registration fee is RM3 (Juniors) and RM5 (Seniors). Calling all line dancers!

Levin Line Dance group will be having a line dance event at Straits Quay on the 25th November, 2018 (Sun) from 4.30 pm till 5.30 pm. This event is held in conjuction with Stratis Quay Christmas Bazaar on that weekend.

Charis Hospice would like to thank our handicraft ladies for their time and effort in helping us raise RM2,548 through their sale on Saturday at the Straits quay Christmas Bazaar. Great job, ladies!!

And on Sunday, we had 120 line dancers from all over Penang who came to join in Levin’s Line Dance group to give support to Charis Hospice and bring awareness on palliative care! It was awesome seeing all of them entertaining those who came by to the Bazaar. They were also able to raise RM1,400 which will help

The Olive Tree Hotel team that comprised of 15 departmental heads together with their Executive Director, Ms Andrea Cheah, visited our Multi Activity Centre (MAC) on the 24th October, 2018. The team provided lunch for our MAC patients, volunteers and staff and everyone had a wonderful time getting to know each other.

We want to thank them also for the kind donation of RM7,000 which will help us in providing free palliative home care service to those who are suffering from cancer and advanced illnesses.

Charis Hospice would like to thank the Disted College hospitality students who were able to raise RM2000 from their recent Spooktacular Fiesta 2018 held at their college in Georgetown on the 28th October, 2018.

They also managed to organize an essay writing with the title, ‘My experience of going through the journey of dying with a close one’, a collaboration with Charis Hospice in trying to break the taboo of talking about death & dying in our culture. The top 3 winners of the contest will have their essays featured in

Charis Hospice celebrated World Hospice and Palliative Care Day together with Penang GH on the 10th October, 2018. The theme for this year is ‘Because I Matter’, a phrase taken from Ms Cecilia Saunders.

We were invited to set up a booth to inform the public about palliative care. At the same time, we also shared with them the services provided by Charis Hospice to those who are in need of it.
